Detroit

College for Creative Studies

The College for Creative Studies (CCS) holds the Iggy Sumnik Memorial Fund for Community Arts Educators, a family-endowed fund honoring the creativity and dedication of CCS Community Arts Partnership teaching artists like Iggy. The fund supports professional development for these artists and continues Iggy’s legacy of fostering creativity in young people.

Omaha

Lauritzen Gardens 

During Iggy’s time in Omaha, Lauritzen Gardens displayed many of his sculptures, adding playful touches to its beautiful botanical spaces. A bronze brick honoring Iggy is now placed in Lauritzen’s Garden of Memories, keeping his spirit alive in the gardens. Two new sculptures are being added to the garden soon.

WhyArts

At WhyArts, Iggy connected with young people of all abilities through art and creativity. In May 2025, WhyArts hosted “IMPACT – An Iggy Sumnik Retrospective” at the University of Nebraska Omaha Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center, celebrating his life and artistic journey.

Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts

The Bemis Center hosted Iggy as an artist-in-residence and has featured his work in its annual art auction for many years. His artwork continues to be part of the 2025 Bemis Art Auction, a lasting testament to his role in Omaha’s creative community.

KANEKO

Iggy went to Omaha in 2015 as a studio assistant at KANEKO. After completing that role in 2018, he remained a dedicated supporter and creator, contributing to innovative programs like The Flamingo Project.

College of Saint Mary

At the College of Saint Mary, Iggy taught art classes for several years, inspiring students with his imagination and energy. The college presented an Iggy Sumnik exhibition, celebrating his creative influence and devotion to teaching.

Angel Guardians

Angel Guardians fosters abilities, expands access, and creates opportunities for inclusion through art and community programs. Iggy taught in the early version of its art program, sharing his creativity with participants of all abilities.
